Wales Mobility & Driving Assessment Service Have A New Patron

WMDAS are pleased to introduce Aled Davies OBE, MBE. as their new Patron.

Aled is a Welsh/British Paralympian competing mainly in category F42 throwing events In 2012 he became the world record holder of the F42 shot put and in the 2012 Summer Paralympics he took the bronze medal in shot put and gold in the discus and went to compete worldwide.

In total Aled has achieved 3 Gold and 1 Silver medal in the Paralympic Games, 7 Gold and 1 Silver at the World Championships and 4 Gold medals in the European Championships.
Only one Welsh athlete has ever won four Paralympic Golds at four consecutive Games, – the legendary Dame Tanni Grey- Thompson.

Aled is a service user and said he was honoured that WMDAS has asked him to be the Patron of our Charity. During his attendance at numerous Games throughout the World, Aled has encountered many disabled competitors who have been driving unsafely without controls, sitting on numerous cushions and devising their own way of driving and he has become a source of information advising them to contact mobility centres for advice. He also has a great knowledge through his own experience of the availability of different adaptations and completely understands the work involved by mobility centres which is a bonus. Aled will be taking our WMDAS banner and leaflets with him on his travels, promoting the service, he will also be sporting the WMDAS logo on his training vest.

Aled is a motivational speaker travelling to disability organisation events and his main ambition is to speak to as many disabled children and adults as possible to show them that their disability should not prevent them from achieving their dreams and certainly not prevent them from taking part in sport.
